Holy crap balls! That’s all we have to say!

This book was beautifully heartbreaking. If you are fans of Charade’s Colt and Cheyenne’s story from the first book and thought it was heartbreaking, then you are in for a treat; ok,  you should also break out the tissues too! Adrian’s story takes the cake for a gut-wrenching. Nyrae did a fabulous job with Adrian and Delaney’s story.

We got to know Adrian in Charades, and he was known as the party guy. In Facade, he really isn’t the partying type–sure he does it, but only to mask away his pain, guilt and regret. He is secretly carrying a dark secret that is killing him inside. He has such a tortured soul–we just wanted to fix and love him!

Delaney, who has a good heart and trying to make amends with what her family has done. She also is flawed and doesn’t have the perfect life. Her mother hates her, her father ruined her family and her brother is constantly angry–all because of family secrets.

Delaney is set to find peace with all those who are affected by this tragic event.  Then she accidentally meets Adrian and they both spend time together. It started out with attraction, but the more they got to know each other; their connection deepened–even with each others secrets and lies. And of course their secrets run deep and eventually comes to light and causes heartbreak. There were so many twists and turns in their story, it was hard to put this book down. It truly is a story about forgiveness and learning how to move on.

We loved the alternate POV between Adrian and Delaney. It’s great to get inside the minds of all the characters and understand what they are thinking and why! Another reason why we loved Facade, is that we got a little more of Colt and Cheyenne in the book too! Facade is probably one of the best reads for us in 2013, we highly recommend it.

Looking forward to book three, Masquerade, which is about Madoxx Cross, Delaney’s brother.

Karmen
Asian Chick, Karmen’s Review of Painted Lines

Rating: 3.5 (almost 4–if it didn’t cause me so much angst!)  stars out of 5

I don’t think a book has stressed me out as much as Painted Lines did. This is definitely not a fluffy love story or even filled with hearts and flowers. Brei did a fantastic job in describing the pain, the nightmare, the torture, that Scout endured (and still going through). And holy hell, I felt Scout’s night terrors and her panic attacks. This story was so unique; I loved the idea of the “reality show” and how Scout’s past showed up through it.

Scout went through a very horrific ordeal when she was young. Because of that she suffers from severe PTSD. And she is protected (overly protected!) by her brother and close friends. She hasn’t really been able to heal properly. When they enter the “reality show” she has a run in with her past, who also happens to be competition in the show.

She meets Thayne, who at first was an a-hole. He wasn’t aware of truth of what happened between Scout and his friend/team member, Tristan. He just assumed it was all Scout’s fault. But Thayne slowly redeemed himself, by befriending Scout and learning of her nightmares. He became an escape for her, when she needed to get away from her brother and friends. Eventually these two developed a slow romance–Thayne helped her slowly heal and let her feel like her own person (being able to make her own decisions without being treated like a child).

Scout’s story is so intense, it will definitely keep the pages turning for you. And the end! The end–I was holding my breath, thinking seriously, she did not just write that? What an end–it was quite brilliant!

Ok. So first let me tell you that this book is way intense and I mean over the top intense, so get ready for a roller coaster.  Scout is heroine and Thayne is the main male character.   When I started this book I thought it would be similar to Brei’s other books but this one is most definitely different.

I felt really bad for Scout and what she went through in the past and I loved how sensitive and patient Thayne was with her. I love the reality building competition they were in and all the great side characters.  While I didn’t love the story/plot the writing in this book is fantastic.  I was also a little torn over the ending of this book as I didn’t feel content with the characters at the end.   I’m not going to say more than that so I won’t give too much away.  Again while I liked this book I didn’t love it but it wasn’t due to the writing it was more due to the story and plot.  It is an intense and emotional read with major peaks and valley’s that had me in tears a few times and laughing.  Again it is beautifully written and I would recommend it for others just be prepared for an emotional journey.

Seriously! Is it possible for Jesse “The Lord” Ward get any more freaking crazier in this book? Why yes he can and he did not disappoint! But we still loved his crazy arse!

This Man Confessed starts out with the wedding between Jesse and Ava at The Manor. The wedding can’t be complete without a “Jesse-Uber-Controlling” moment. And let’s just say there were handcuffs involved! We loved, loved the banter between Jesse and Ava’s Mom at the wedding and throughout the book.

There’s never a dull moment between these two. From the start, their marriage begins with new secrets, new conflicts, and new fights. They took us on a roller coaster of emotions  from start to end. And Ava pretty much drove us insane the entire time, she’s just as crazy as her husband!

We don’t want to give anything away, because this book is not out yet (soon ladies!), but we can say, literally, “This Man Confesses” — Jesse’s secrets are revealed and gives us a sense of “Ahhh, now we get it…” That is why he is the way he is with Ava–complete control and very protective of her. His story, his confessions come full circle.

And our absolute favorite part of the book was the epilogue! It’s told from Jesse’s POV and is probably one of the best ending of a series ever. Beautifully done!

It’s a bittersweet that This Man series is over. We’re not sure we could take anymore of Jesse or Ava’s crazy antics, but we will dearly miss Jesse’s countdown, Ava’s mouth and his forever love of peanut butter!

In 3, 2, 1, 0 baby–you can pre-order This Man Confessed and will be delivered to you on July 2!

“I just didn’t know what you were running from….”

Desperate to hide at all costs, Devon plunges into her new life in the city. Everyone around her starts to reveal sides of themselves Devon never expected. And just when she starts to get comfortable, her world flips upside down…

Our Review of Following Me
Rating: 4 stars out of 5

We were huge fans of K.A.’s Avoiding series, so we were very excited to read Following Me. Following Me’s synopsis was a little vague, so we weren’t quite sure what we were getting into or where the story was going.

It starts out with Devon, a college student, who seems to have it all–a good family, sweet boyfriend and attending college. But she flees to Chicago; lying to everyone–her family thinks she’s back at school, her boyfriend thinks she’s in Paris, and her friend, Hadley doesn’t know the real reason why she is visiting.

She “moves in” with her former roommate, Hadley. Hadley also seems like she has it going on–great apartment, living with a great guy, etc. But she also holds deep secrets of her own. Garrett, Hadley’s live-in boyfriend, is clueless about the Hadely’s secrets and is also dealing with issues of his own. Eventually Devon and Garrett become close (no crazy Avoiding Series type triangle!). Then comes Brennan, the swoon-worthy bartender, who gives Devon a job so she can figure out what she wants to do next with her life. And also helps Devon face her secrets and demons that haunt her.

We can’t give too much away about Following Me, but it’s definitely an intense book that touches on subjects that are revealed in all the character’s secrets! Clearly, looks can be deceiving. People put on a mask to hide what’s deep inside. And the epilogue was fab!
