Can we say it’s a shame that this book is free* on Amazon? (*at the time of our review, this book was free). Because new Author, Penelope Douglas, should be charging for her fan-freakin-tastic book, Bully. JUST WOW! Normally, we are never excited about “free” books. But holy crap balls, Bully, blew us away. We were hearing really good buzz about this new book and decided to give a try. And let’s just say–nothing mattered until we finished every single page.
Tate, a sweet high school girl, endured hell all through school, by the “bullying” of her former best friend and next door neighbor, Jared. And for no reason at all. She was taunted and humiliated so much, that she packed up and left the country for a year.
Her return, her senior year, Tate was not going take it anymore. It was her last year of high school and she was determined to face it–face Jared, his douchey best friend, Madoc and all her classmates that believed the lies and rumors. And Tate, what a character! Her strength to fight back was incredible. And the monologue she delivered in class, in front of Jared–it was so heartbreaking, but loved every single word and the reaction of Jared–priceless!
As the story progressed, it was clear that Jared and all his “bully-iness” was a facade. He was hurting on the inside (but it did not make what he was doing right!). He literally made us cringe with what he said to Tate at times. We eventually find out why he did those things to her, and glad that Tate didn’t forgive and forget so easily. Sure, his actions were unforgettable and he didn’t deserve a second of her time, but these two had such a deep past as childhood friends–we were rooting for them!
Bully was a surprisingly fantastic book! We were hoping there there was a nice HEA epilogue at the end, so we were a bit disappointed. But excited that there will be a book 2, which is Maddoc’s story (he slowly redeemed himself at the end!), and knowing we’ll get more of Tate and Jared.
Our BIG WISH–is a book on Jared’s POV. We would love to know what was going through his mind all those years. Hint! Hint! 🙂
Bully is currently free on Amazon, so we suggest you get it now! *Please note: at the time of our review, Bully was offered Free. Anyway, you should purchase this book no matter what the cost.
