Cora Lewis is a whole lot of fun, and she knows how to keep her tattooed bad boy friends in line. But all that flash and sass hide the fact that she’s never gotten over the way her first love broke her heart. Now she has a plan to make sure that never happens again: She’s only going to fall in love with someone perfect.
Rome Archer is as far from perfect as a man can be. He’s stubborn and rigid, he’s bossy and has come back from his final tour of duty fundamentally broken. Rome’s used to filling a role: big brother, doting son, super soldier; and now none of these fit anymore. Now he’s just a man trying to figure out what to do with the rest of his life while keeping the demons of war and loss at bay. He would have been glad to suffer it alone, until Cora comes sweeping into his life and becomes the only color on his bleak horizon.
Perfect isn’t in the cards for these two, but imperfect might just last forever
This is such a great series. I’m absolutely in love with Rule and Shaw, and now Rome and Cora is high up there too!
We meet Rome in the first book, he is the big brother; the strong solider that looked out for his family, then after that bombshell that dropped at the end of Rule, it changed him.
This book follows a struggling Rome to figure out who he is, after being thrown back to civilian life. He’s suffering from nightmares from war, trying to avoid his parents and constantly arguing with Rule and friends. Rome stumbles upon some work at a run down biker bar and it slowly changes his life without him realizing it at first. Then he meets Cora, friend of Rule’s close knit circle and she also changes his life, but for the good (even though it takes time to figure that one out too!).
Cora…I love her character. She really is a spitfire; a little pixie. She’s determined to protect her friends and try to fix whatever is broken. But she takes no shit from Rome. And I love how she put him in his place the first time they really meet. And that was the spark that set off Rome to take notice of her.
“My Little Punk-Rock Pixie”
But the more time Cora spends with Rome though, the more she sees inside his broken heart and mind. But Cora is hesitant to move forward with Rome, because she too suffers from a past. A past filled with heartbreak and trust issues. She’s now looking for Mr. Perfect, but soon finds out her Mr. Perfect is not perfect, but Rome perfectly fits into her life. There is hot attraction between both of them, but Rome’s anger makes it an obstacle for him to show how he really feels about Cora. But these two do make it, but not without lots of bumps and a few surprises.
Rome is filled with angst, drama and a bit of action, that keeps you turning the page, because you just want Rome and Cora to have a HEA! And I love getting more of Rule and Shaw is this book. Rule, Shaw and Rome finally get some closure with each other, along with the parents. The Marked Men series continues with Nash and a mysterious nurse from his past and I can’t wait to get his story next.
I’m supposed to share interesting details about myself so that my readers get to know me so here we go in no particular order: I’m an natural redhead even though I haven’t seen my real hair color in years, I’m a big fan of tattoos and have a half sleeve on either arm and various other pieces all over the place, I’ve been in the bar industry since I was in college and it has always offered interesting insight into how men and women interact with each other, I have 3 dogs that are all crazy, I live in Colorado and love the snow, I love music and in all reality wish I could be a rock star not a writer or a bartender but I have zero talent so there is that.
I love to write, love to read and all I’m interested in is a good story with interesting characters that make the reader feel something.
